Ras Mohammed National Park
Declared a protected area in 1983 also includes in addition to Ras Mohammed Tiran Island, the coast overlooking the resort of Sharm el Sheikh, Nabq, Ras Abu Galum and Santa Caterina. In 1998 the area was enlarged and now includes Taba and across the Egyptian coast of the Gulf of Aqaba. The entrance to the Earth's marine park of Ras Mohammed is 16 km from Sharm el Sheikh and is' located in the tip of the Sinai Peninsula. The land areas of the park more than a little contrast with the exuberance of colors in the life of the coral reefs and the sea surface which here takes on all shades of blue, white and green. The desert of the Sinai overlooking the sea here keeping intact the desolate landscape, suddenly rare sand dunes descend sheer into tiny coves where the sea explodes in a storm of colors. Although most of the terrestrial life of the desert comes alive in the night, the day is not 'uncommon to come across crowded gatherings or in some Nubians Ibis rapacious fisherman as the Osprey (Sea Hawk). At least five groups of this very rare bird of prey are present in the Red Sea Tiran Island there is 'the most' large population of Osprey in the Red Sea. These animals, like the more 'common gulls exploit their food resources for reef fish. In late summer thousands of storks stop in the park during their annual migration that takes them far from Northern Africa and Eastern Europe. The red fox is often encountered in the vicinity 'of the beaches is not' dangerous if approached with care.
