Strait of Tiran
A long stretch of sand and hills stretching in front of Sharm el-Sheikh, visible from almost all the coast: Tthe island of Tiran. It is located south of the Gulf of Aqaba, in the homonym Straits of Tiran. The island is totally barren and uninhabited. Only present are military positions and access to the beaches is not allowed. In the middle of the strait there are four reefs were named after 19 th century English cartographers who drew the first nautical map of this region: Jackson Reef, Woodhouse Reef, Thomas Reef and Gordon Reef. Popular destination for scuba divers, but also suitable for those who want to just snorkel. It is reached after about one hour by boat leaving from various ports of Sharm el-Sheikh. Approaching the island, one is struck by the great wreck of a cargo ship stranded on Gordon Reef, the first of the four reefs. Who visited this place in different years could see the degradation of this wreck, caused by the forces of the sea and winds. Some might argue that it would be better to remove, but the damage to the reef would be worse. The boat stranded to become part of the habitat and the marine life uses it's holes. Putting your face under water you would be amazed how much life can be born of a wreck. All four reefs, for snorkeling or diving, are of great interest.
